My Inner Thoughts masquerading as a Mini Blog !

If you are already here trying to figure out what I have to say, then you might as well go ahead and read some of my late night thoughts which give me company when the whole world is peacefully sleeping.

We should always be jealous of other's success 'but' in a positive way!

Ok, before you judge me please hear me out. We have always heard people say that "we should not be jealous of other's success",
but if we have learnt anything from history it is that we humans are mentally wired to compare ourselves with others and only because of this constant comparison we have been able to produce better cars, make healthcare and education accessible for wider population, dream about going to Mars someday and so many more things.
So, instead of pretending that we are not affected by the success of others, let us accept that it is only natural for us to be wanting success and recognition. Now comes the challenging part of walking the talk. To work harder than the other person, to not give in to distractions, to stay focussed, to stay motivated enough so that we can achieve more than what the other person has achieved. So, it would be safe to say that if we turn our natural tendency of feeling jealous into positive attitude and hard work it will be a win for everyone.

(Good) Friends and Teachers are like boosters attached to a rocket.

Most of us would be aware about what a "Rocket" is. If not, let me tell you, it is like a car but for Space. Ok, on a serious note we all know that Rockets are used to carryAstronauts, satellites and sometimes even pet animals (poor Laika) into space, sometimes to land on the Moon and nowadays even on Mars but most of the times to just Orbit around the earth or to go to the International Space Station and come back. The rocket itself cannot hold enough fuel which can provide it necessary thrust (force) to perform it's whole journey due to weight and design constraints. To overcome this challenge, engineers came with an ingenious idea. They attached several boosters to the rocket. These boosters would carry all the fuel necessary to generate power and once fuel gets over the booster detaches itself from the rocket and falls back to the earth, allowing the rocket to complete it's destined journey. It is the rocket which gets all the name and fame while the boosters do their part and fade away quietly.Similarly, in our lives we come across some good people who are kind to us, who guide us, who teach us invaluable lessons. Sometimes they are our friends and sometimes they are our teachers. As important as they are at some point of time in our lives, we have to let them go. Each one of us have our own journey and to fulfill it we need to let go of things and people at the right time other wise they start holding us back, just like the empty booster would if it is not detached from the rocket after it's fuel gets over.
You may like it or not but those who understand this are the ones to succeed in life. Look around yourself and there would be many examples.

Working Hard alone never suffices, we have to be smart to succeed.

We have always heard our parents and teachers say that hard work is the key to success. While there is no denying the fact that if we are not prepared well enough for the task that we intend to perform, we are most probably preparing ourselves for failure. Having said that, it is not necessary that two different people have to put in same amount of hard work to prepare for the same task.Let us try to understand with an example, Jack and Jill both are in 1st year engineering degree college. Jack actively attends all the classes and makes notes for important topics while Jill takes it easy, bunking some of the classes and never bothers to prepare any notes. Now during examinations, it is very much possible for both Jack and Jill to get 100 out of 100 but it is most certain that Jill will have to work harder, study more and put in extra efforts to achieve what Jack can by putting less effort. If you step back and observer from distance you can say that both similarly worked hard, Jack's hard work was distributed over a period of time and infused with discipline while Jill had to put in long hours at the last minute out of desperation. Jill is at a high risk of burnout and fatigue due to this last minute pressure that he induced on himself.Had he been smart enough to distribute his workload, it would have been easier for him to achieve his goal of getting 100. As we grow older we realize that smart work always beats hard work in all phases of life irrespective of the fact that we are at school, college or work, those who are smart are highly likely to beat those who just work hard without putting much thoughts into their actions.
